THE CHALLENGE
Treehouse Paediatrics has a challenge for you: kids doing balance and movement exercises need a fun, encouraging way to know how they're doing — and their therapists need a way to track it. Using the Micro:bit, students design a wearable that detects movement, angles and impact, then turns that data into something a therapist can understand at a glance: a light, a graph, a number on screen.
Over 8 weeks, students learn how sensors "see" the physical world — motion, thresholds, feedback — and prototype a device built for a real user: a child in therapy, not a lab test dummy. They test on each other, refine for comfort and accuracy, and think hard about what makes feedback feel encouraging rather than clinical.
By the end, students hand over a working prototype to a real allied health clinic, and can explain exactly how their engineering choices affect how it feels to use.
